Why “Papmil”?
Papmil is short for “paper mill.” A traditional paper mill turns raw material into useful sheets. This little mill starts at the other end: it takes the unruly stack already sitting on your desk and turns the scan into useful digital documents.
The name lost a few letters along the way. That feels appropriate for a tool whose whole job is removing a few tedious steps.
One question
What if one upload could run the whole sequence: optimize, recognize, separate, name, and return documents that are much closer to ready for filing?
The first version is deliberately narrow. There is one workflow, four tools, a small free allowance, and plenty that can go wrong. The live counters on the homepage show the real amount of work it has processed without dressing early numbers up as scale.
One larger idea
Underneath that small workflow is a more general model: each operation receives the previous operation's results, and one file can branch into many. That opens the door to recurring, composable document workflows.
The Aspirational Roadmap explores that possibility while labelling every unbuilt idea as aspiration.
No need to “win” PDF software
Papmil does not need to replace Acrobat, iLovePDF, Stirling PDF, Paperless-ngx, or PDF Expert. They are amazing. If Papmil becomes useful, it will be because a few specific recurring workflows deserve a simple, opinionated home.
